Cancer Cell Permeability Induced by Alternating Electric Fields as a Physical Approach to Improve Chemotherapy Uptake and Overcome Multidrug Resistance

Key Findings:

Researchers have discovered that a non-invasive electric field treatment can help chemotherapy work better against cancer—even in cases where the cancer has become resistant to drugs. The study showed that electric fields make cancer cells more “leaky” during cell division, allowing more chemotherapy medicine to enter the cells. This effect was seen in lab tests and in animals with breast and lung tumors. Importantly, the electric field did not harm healthy cells and could help overcome one of the biggest challenges in cancer treatment: when tumors stop responding to medicine.
