He received his bachelor and master degrees in chemical engineering in 1992 and 1994, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electronic science and technology in1997, from Shizuoka University, Shizuoka, Japan. He worked as a Research Associates at Shizuoka University, from 1997 to 1999 and in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Ohio State University, Columbus, from 1999 to 2006. His work largely is in the development of electrical capacitance tomography. He invented 4D imaging technology, namely Electrical Capacitance Volume Tomography (ECVT) together with Prof. L.S. Fan of the Ohio State University in 2004, and granted of PCT Patent in 2006. He founded CTech Labs Edwar Technology Company, Indonesia in 2007, where he invented signature technologies of ECVT for brain and breast scanners, as well as Electro-Capacitive Cancer Therapy (ECCT) for cancer treatment using low level of electric energy. He served as senior adviser to the Minister of Research and Technology, helping establishing National Innovation System from 2009—2011.

He received Achmad Bakrie Award for Technology in 2009, Industrial Pioneering Technology Award from the Ministry of Industry in 2010, Intellectual Property Award from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in 2014, BJ Habibie Technology Award in 2015 and other prestigious awards. He invented 10 patents and published over 150 articles in international journals and conferences. His research interests are in the fields of tomography, ultrasound technology, medical imaging, image reconstruction technique, multiphase flow imaging and dynamics, multiphase reactor engineering, and neural networks.
